Her Recipes: Staples

So I thought for my first post I would do one of my very easy recipes with a few of my staples. College girls should always have a few things in their kitchen/dorm that can be made when time is of the essence so we don't call up our friend Papa John for a quick fix. Last night I was slammed with homework and errands so my meal needed to be a quickie. So I grabbed some handy dandy food staples and in as easy as 1,2 3, I had me some dinner.

1.  Steam Fresh Veggies. Literally have a stock pile of these. 4 to 5 minutes and you have a side dish or a healthy snack.

2. Uncle Ben's Ready Rice. 90 second magic in a bag. But be careful, these different flavors can come packed with calories. Always read your labels!

3. Frozen shrimp. The best part is you can leave it under a hot stream of water and then microwave it. Maybe not the most representative of the culinary arts, but it satisfies the college appetite.

So you mix them together and viola! a delicious meal in under 30 minutes

And the best part of the meal is that you can just grab a tupperware and then...

You have next day's lunch!

So there you have it folks, first post made up of some simple yet delicious food staples from Her's truly.

So tell me, what are your food staples?

  1. I love that you can make steam fresh veggies quickly and easily right in the microwave. I've never tried frozen shrimp before though- I may give that a try soon...

Some of my staples: Stonyfield Farms frozen yogurt- chocolate, vanilla, or coffee flavors. Delicious and relatively healthy at 100 cal/ serving. Amy's brand entrees, especially the pasta bowls and frozen burritos. Most options are vegetarian and delicious! I'm also a big fan of a bowl of oatmeal anytime of day, topped with any (or several!) of the following: peanut butter, jelly, apple or pumpkin butter, fresh fruit, almonds or raisins.
